What Camps Bay homes deal with
Houses step up the slope in terraces, with basements, garages and pool rooms cut into the hillside. These lower levels stay cool and damp and are where rats, fishmoths and cockroaches settle first. Guest houses and villas with frequent changeovers need fast, discreet treatments, and the restaurant strip along the beachfront has its own commercial kitchens and refuse areas to manage.
The Twelve Apostles and the Glen at Kloof Nek border the suburb, so fynbos, pine plantations and Table Mountain National Park are right on the doorstep. The South-Easter blows hard through summer, but the suburb can be still and hot in the late afternoon. Winter brings heavy rain off the mountain, and runoff through the stormwater channels pushes rodents out of their burrows.
The pests we get called out for most in Camps Bay
Rats in basements and roof spaces top the list, followed by German cockroaches in restaurants and holiday homes. Ants trail in from irrigated gardens, and bed bugs come in with luggage in short-term lets. Gulls and pigeons cause mess on roofs, decks and pool areas.
Rats and mice
Roof rats come down from the pine trees and mountain slopes into roofs and garages, while brown rats work the restaurant refuse areas on Victoria Road. Stormwater channels carry them between properties in winter.
Cockroaches, ants and other crawlers
German cockroaches live in commercial kitchens and spread in holiday villas through deliveries and luggage. Argentine ants love the irrigated, lush gardens, and fishmoths settle in cool basement storerooms.
Flies, mosquitoes and wasps
Houseflies gather around the beachfront restaurants on calm days, and clothes moths damage linen and wool in homes closed between seasons. Wasps nest under deck boards and in the eaves of houses near the Glen.
Fleas and bed bugs
Bed bugs are the guest-house owner's worry, brought in with suitcases and spread between rooms on cleaning trolleys. Fleas come with pets and occasionally with rodents nesting under decks.
Wood borer and timber
Timber decks, pergolas and cladding take a hammering from sun and salt and can harbour borer once the wood softens. Most sales here need a beetle certificate, and the inspection should cover decks and outbuildings too.
Pantry pests
Restaurants and delis on the strip need stored product checks for flour beetles and moths. In villas, opened packets left in the pantry between lets often turn into pantry moth problems.
Hygiene and disinfection
Villas and guest houses often book disinfection between guests, particularly in December and January. Restaurants and spas use fogging after closures or illness.
Birds
Kelp gulls and pigeons settle on flat roofs, glass balustrades and pool decks. Bird wire and spikes on ledges keep them off without spoiling the view.
How a visit works
We start with an inspection, because the right answer for ants is different from the right answer for rats, and guessing wastes money. Where we can, we go least-toxic first: gel baits for cockroaches and ants, tamper-resistant bait stations and snap traps for rodents, and insect growth regulators that break the breeding cycle. Residual sprays and dusts are applied only where they are needed, such as wall voids, cracks and roof spaces, not sprayed across every surface. Proofing is part of the job, so we point out or seal the gaps that let pests in. You get a post-treatment report so you know what was used and where.

Questions from Camps Bay
Do rats in Camps Bay come down from the mountain?
Some do, especially roof rats living in the pines near the Glen and on the Twelve Apostles slopes. Others live around restaurant refuse areas, so we look at both before placing bait and sealing gaps.
Can you treat a Camps Bay holiday villa between guest bookings?
Yes, we can plan the visit for a changeover day and use odourless products where possible. Ask about after-hours or weekend visits if your turnaround is tight.
Is your pest control safe for children and pets?
We use the least-toxic effective option first and place baits in tamper-resistant stations or in cracks where children and pets cannot reach. We will tell you if anyone needs to stay out of a room and for how long.
How soon can you come out?
Our average turnaround is about 48 hours, though it varies with the season. After-hours and weekend visits can be arranged on request.
