Bacteria Control across Cape Town

Bacteria control is about cleaning up the contamination pests leave behind and keeping high-risk surfaces hygienic. After a rodent infestation, a pigeon roost or a sewage leak, ordinary cleaning is often not enough, so we disinfect the affected areas properly. We do this for homes, kitchens, washrooms and commercial premises across Cape Town and the Boland.

Most bacteria control work we do is linked to pest problems. The biggest is clean-up after rodents, where urine and droppings in roof voids, pantries and storerooms can carry bacteria such as Leptospira and Salmonella. Pigeon droppings that build up on ledges, in roof spaces and on solar panels are another common job, as are areas where flies and cockroaches have been breeding in drains and bin rooms. We also disinfect after sewage backups and in food preparation areas, washrooms and refuse areas that need a hygiene reset.

Bacteria control or an ordinary deep clean?

A cleaning company and a pest control company can both arrive with a spray bottle, so it is fair to ask what the difference is. Put simply, a deep clean deals with everyday dirt in areas people use. Bacteria control deals with contamination left by pests, sewage or birds, often in places nobody goes, and it only makes sense once the cause has been dealt with.

  • Call a cleaner for a grubby kitchen, a tenant handover or a dusty office.
  • Call us when the dirt came from rats, mice, pigeons, cockroaches or a drain backup, or when it is in a roof void, a ceiling cavity, a duct or a storeroom that has been sealed for months.

The difference shows in the way the work is done. Droppings and nesting material are removed with protective equipment, and the disinfectant is chosen for the surface and what the room is used for. Spaces a cloth cannot reach, such as ceiling voids and ducts, can be fogged.

Often it is both: we treat the contamination and the pest behind it, and a cleaner finishes the living areas afterwards.

Bacteria control for different Cape Town properties

Restaurants and food businesses

The high-risk spots are rarely the prep counters, which get cleaned all day. They are the dry store floor under the bottom shelf, the space behind the cold room, the grease trap area and the bin yard. Those are where rodents and cockroaches leave contamination that ordinary closing-time cleaning misses.

Schools and creches

Small children touch everything and put their hands in their mouths. After a rodent problem in a creche kitchen, sick bay or toy storeroom, the clean-up needs planning around school hours so the rooms are safe and dry before the children are back.

Apartment blocks and body corporates

In the City Bowl, Sea Point and Green Point, pigeons roost on balconies, window ledges and light wells, and the droppings build up in places owners cannot easily reach. Bin rooms in older blocks are another regular job, especially in the hot, windless days of late summer.

Offices and warehouses

Rodents in an office tend to live in the ceiling void above the kitchen and in the cable trays under raised floors. In warehouses, the problem is usually in corners behind racking and in the pallets of returned stock nobody has moved for months. Both are easy to miss until somebody notices a smell.

Short-term rentals

A holiday flat that stood empty over winter may have had mice in the cupboards for months before anyone noticed. Clearing and disinfecting the kitchen and linen cupboards before the first guests arrive avoids a very awkward review.

Older homes with solar panels

Panels on older Southern Suburbs roofs give pigeons a sheltered gap above the tiles. The droppings collect in gutters and spill into the roof space, and the clean-up usually goes hand in hand with bird proofing.

Getting the area ready for us

  1. Keep people and pets out of the affected room or roof space, and close the ceiling hatch.
  2. Do not start cleaning before we arrive. It spreads the contamination and hides what we need to see.
  3. Take photos of the worst areas and send them on WhatsApp, so we can plan the right equipment.
  4. Make a list of what is stored in the area, particularly food stock, linen or children's items.
  5. Tell us whether the pest is still active. If it is, rodent control or another treatment comes first.

Quick answers

Is this the same as COVID-19 disinfection?

No. Bacteria control focuses on contamination from pests, sewage and dirty areas, while our outbreak disinfection is aimed at viral contamination after illness.

Do you do this for businesses?

Yes, for restaurants, food factories, warehouses and offices, either as a once-off or as part of a contract.

How soon can you come?

Our average turnaround is about 48 hours, and after-hours visits can be arranged for businesses that cannot close.
